ACMSU - Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling Support Unit
The Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling Support Unit carry out world-class scientific research on problems related to atmospheric chemistry in NERC core science areas and provide scientific support, state-of-the-art chemistry models and modelling support to the UK NERC community.

CEH - Centre for Ecology and Hydrology
The NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology is the UK's Centre of Excellence for research in the land and freshwater environmental sciences.

Institute for Atmospheric Science, School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds
The Institute for Atmospheric Science is dedicated to understanding the physical and chemical processes that govern the behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere. Atmospheric processes are investigated using both numerical models and field and laboratory experiments from the Earth's surface to the stratosphere.

NCAS-Climate
NCAS Climate, housed in the Department of Meteorology at Reading University, is part of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS). It carries out research into climate change and variability and provides a vital support infrastructure for the UK academic community, in climate system modelling.

School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia
The School of Environmental Sciences is one of the longest established, largest and most fully developed Schools of Environmental Sciences in Europe.

Models & Software Infrastructure  Top
CICE - A Community Ice Code
CICE is a numerical model of sea ice. It is designed to be a component of global climate models, although it can also be used in standalone mode for sea ice simulations.

FLUME - Flexible Unified Model Environment
The Flexible Unified Model Environment (FLUME) project aims to generate a completely new system architecture for the Met Office Unified Model system.

JULES - Joint UK Land Environment Simulator
JULES is the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator. It is based on MOSES (Met Office Surface Exchange System), the land surface model used in the Unified Model of the UK Met Office (UK Meteorological Service).

NEMO - Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean
NEMO is a state-of-the-art modeling framework for oceanographic research and operational oceanography.

OASIS
OASIS is a software allowing synchronized exchanges of coupling information between numerical models representing different components of the climate system.

PRISM - Program for Integrated Earth System Modelling
PRISM provides the Earth System Modelling community with a forum to promote shared software infrastructure tools.

UKCA - UK Chemistry Aerosol Community Model
UKCA is a joint NCAS-Met Office programme funded by NCAS, GMR and DEFRA. Project partners are the Hadley Centre and the Universities of Cambridge and Leeds. Our objective is to develop, evaluate and make available a new UK community atmospheric chemistry-aerosol global model suitable for a range of topics in climate and environmental change research.

Hadley Centre
The Met Office Hadley Centre for Climate Change provides a focus in the UK for the scientific issues associated with climate change.

NCAS - National Centre for Atmospheric Science
The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) is a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Collaborative Centre. The role of NCAS is to provide the UK with national capability (i.e. stable, long-term and broad) in atmospheric science research. NCAS also provides research outcomes for government policy-making and for the wider UK science base.

NCAS-CMS - National Centre for Atmospheric Science Computational Modelling Services
NCAS-CMS provides information services and support for modelling in the NCAS community.

NERC - Natural Environment Research Council
The Natural Environment Research Council delivers independent research, survey, training and knowledge transfer in the environmental sciences, to advance knowledge of planet Earth as a complex, interacting system.

QUEST - Quantifying and Understanding the Earth System
QUEST assimilates information and expertise from many programmes and institutions in and outside the UK. Its unique focus is on highly effective, interdisciplinary research, closely targeted to help deliver a substantial improvement in the prediction of global environmental change.

UJCC - UK Japan Climate Collaboration
The aim of the UJCC project is to exploit the power of the Earth Simulator to produce world-leading climate simulations.

UK HiGEM
HiGEM is a national UK programme in ‘Grand Challenge' high resolution modelling of the global environment between NERC and the Hadley Centre of the Met Office. In a three year programme (2004-2006), the new Met Office climate model will be taken to unprecedented resolutions. This will achieve a major advance in the fidelity of simulations of the global environment, and improve understanding of mechanisms of climate variability and change on timescales of days to centuries.

Walker Institute
The Walker Institute for Climate System Research brings together the unrivalled breadth and depth of climate expertise that exists within the University of Reading.
